# Menu QR code with the print size worked out for you

Paste the address of your menu and say from how far people will scan it. We give you the code and the exact millimetres to print — the two things that decide whether a guest reads the menu or waves at a waiter.

1. **Paste the address of the menu** — A page on your site, a PDF in cloud storage, an ordering system — anything with a fixed address.
2. **Say from how far it is scanned** — The distance decides the size. This is the step every generator skips, and it is why so many printed codes are too small.
3. **Print the PDF at that size** — The file comes out at exactly the measurement below the code, so the printer does not scale it down to fit.

## The size is calculated, not guessed
The rule scanners work by: the side of the code is about a tenth of the reading distance. Three metres means thirty centimetres — most printed menu codes are five, which is why guests walk up to the wall.

## The run stays valid

A static code with your address inside. Nobody can turn it off, and there is no monthly fee that ends with a table tent full of dead codes.

## Change the menu, keep the code

Because the code points at your page, you edit the dishes and the prices as often as you like. The code stays the same as long as the address does.

## Checked with a reader before printing

Our own reader scans the finished code. A dead code on fifty table tents is a reprint; a checked one is a Tuesday.

## Questions people ask

### What size should the code be on a table tent?

About four to six centimetres for a code read from a seated position, and ten centimetres if it stands on the counter. Choose the distance above and the exact number appears under the code.

### Can I point it straight at a PDF?

You can, and it works, but a PDF on a phone is a slow, zoom-and-pinch experience. A simple page with the dishes reads better and loads faster on a weak connection, which is what a restaurant usually has.

### What happens when I change the menu?

Nothing to the code. It carries the address, not the dishes, so you replace the page and every printed code keeps working.

### Should the code have our logo in it?

It can, and we cut a hole for it and check that the code still reads. Keep it small: guests scan from an angle, in bad light, with a hand that moves.

### Is a dynamic code better for a restaurant?

It is better for whoever sells it. A dynamic code lets you change the destination, but it routes every guest through somebody else's address and stops working when the subscription does. If the address of your menu is stable, static is the safer print.
